A refreshed beginning for BHL1 2021

7 May 2021

I would like to inform you that Darren “Chook” Fowler has resigned from his post as BHL 1 coach for the Labrador Tigerstix, effective immediately.  Chook has recently taken on a new job in Brisbane and has now moved back to live in Brisbane, the combination of work hours and travel has diminished his ability to commit enough time to our BHL program.

I would like to thank Chook for all the work he has done for this group of players, bringing success with the club’s inaugural BHL premiership in 2019 and backing it up with another premiership in 2020.  Chook’s commitment to our club and players will continue as he will continue to sit on the GCHMG board as a Labrador representative and continue to assist where required in our junior/senior programs.

Welcome back to Simon Martin.

I have had discussions with the BHL players along with managers and coaching staff over the last week and after those discussions we are pleased to announce that Simon Martin will step into the role of BHL 1 coach for the remainder of the 2021 season.

Simon has formerly held this role prior to Chooks tenure and has recently been coach of our Div 1 men’s side in the local GCHA competition.  Simon will begin his new role effective immediately and I can confirm he has the full support of the club executive and playing group, as they focus on defending their title and aim to bring the club a third consecutive BHL premiership.

An expression of interest is now open to find a coach for our Div 1 men’s side.  All applications should be addressed to Brent Livermore at coachingdirector@labradorhockey.org.au.
