UNDER 15/17 TRAINING CANCELLED – SENIORS & UNDER 11/13 ON STANDBY

Families, we are so sorry to have to advise that training has again been cancelled. This has not been the best start to our season, however we know that all will work out in the end and the weather will eventually be kind to us!
Labrador is committed to trying to ensure the safety of our players and parents and the road conditions, constant rain and the total lack of any shelter at the Hockey Field at Runaway Bay is all taken into consideration when training is called off.

Unfortunately, due to the weather this afternoon U15 and U17 training has had to be cancelled.
A decision on Senior Women’s training will be made by 4pm and Men’s training tonight will be made by 5pm and published on the website, facebook and Team app.   If you must leave home/work before that time to get to training, we suggest you make an informed decision yourself.
A decision on U11 and U13 training tomorrow morning will be made at 7am tomorrow.
Please keep an eye on the website, Facebook and Team App (if you don’t have Team app please download it now from our website as this is the best way for you to receive late notices).

COREY WEYER CALLED INTO KOOKABURRAS TEAM FOR AZLAN SHAH CUP

Congratulations to Corey Weyer #3 who has been called into the Kookaburras team heading to Malaysia to replace defender Matt Dawson who has withdrawn with injury.  Corey will join fellow Tigerstix player Dylan Wotherspoon #26 in the team.

Hockey Australian says:

“Weyer is a 21-year-old with eight caps who hails from Biggera Waters on the Gold Coast, having played for Labrador Tigerstix. He was added to the National Senior Men’s Squad for this year after debuting in November.

“Corey has had a good couple of weeks in training following the Netherlands series,” Batch said.  “He’s played in Malaysia before, so he’ll be accustomed to the conditions and challenges that they bring.”

Australia will meet England, Malaysia, India, Ireland and Argentina in the Azlan Shah Cup which runs from March 3-10 with matches televised on Fox Sports.  The 18-man Kookaburras team is due to depart for Malaysia on Sunday morning.

The Azlan Shah Cup will be the Kookaburras’ final tournament before the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast from April 4-15.  The Kookaburras team for the Commonwealth Games will be named in mid-March after the Azlan Shah Cup.”

Make sure you catch the action on Fox Sports!  All the best in Malaysia Corey!

2018 Season Details for Seniors & Graded Juniors Updated

Season training and match information has been updated with the most current information available to us from the training venue at Nikki Hudson Hockey Centre, Runaway Bay and Gold Coast Hockey Association.

Field availability is limited and creates a lot of challenge until we return to Labrador Tigerstix at Gold Coast Hockey Centre on 11 May after the Commonwealth Games organisers have packed up the additional hardware needed for the Commonwealth Games.  However with careful organisation, all juniors and seniors will still have a full season of hockey without the need for midweek games after March.

Like most other activities on the Gold Coast, we appreciate your patience as we all try to do our best to provide hockey for the kids.  Details for Juniors can be viewed on the Juniors 2018 Season Overview page.

Details for Seniors can be viewed on the Seniors 2018 Season Overview page.

Tigerstix Junior Coach Appointments 2018

We are pleased to announce Junior coaches for 2018 season.  Our Coordinators Nicole Stone (U11s & U13s) and Lauren Clarke (U15s & U17s) have worked hard with Head Coach Darren Fowler to attract coaches with minimum HA Level 1 Coach or equivalent.  We are very pleased that Brent Livermore (International Coach) is continuing to coach Under 17 girls which provides continuity from 2017 season.

Australian Kookaburra Squad Honours

Congratulations to Corey Weyer and Dylan Wotherspoon on their Kookaburras squad selection.
Dylan and younger brother Blake joined Labrador Tigerstix in 2017 to play in our BHL1 team and with their team mates and coaches, helped the team to go all the way to the grand final in Brisbane, but unfortunately the team was unable to get the win on the day.
Corey and his younger brother Tate have played with Labrador Tigerstix since they started as juniors. Corey has played with underage Australian teams previously but played his first matches for the Kookaburras senior Australian team at the Festival of International Hockey held in Victoria last year. The club is very proud of both Dylan and Corey’s achievements, and will miss them when they move to Perth in mid January to train with the Kookaburras squad. Keep up the training Corey & Dylan, and best wishes for upcoming selections and matches.  We hope to see you both playing at the Commonwealth Games in April!
