BHL 2 Semi Final Wrap Up

BHL 2 ended their 2024 season on August 17 at Redcliffe HC. After achieving 5th place in the strong 10 team competition, they qualified for the knockout semifinal. BHL 2 was narrowly defeated by Northern Suburbs HC, 3 goals to 2. Labrador dominated periods of this semifinal but were unable to convert our superior attacking circle penetrations and penalty corner advantage into goals. Norths goalkeeper also saved a penalty stroke in the 4th quarter to deny the Stix a draw. Congratulations to Hudson Keeble for being voted Best on Ground.

The 2s have enjoyed a rewarding season competing in what turned out to be one of the strongest BHL 2 competitions in recent years. Many of the team achieved State representative honours throughout the year Under 16 to Masters. The team looks to improve even further in 2025 representing LHC.

BHL Wrap Up – Round 18

BHL 1 took on Kedron Wavell HC on the Tigerstix home ground last Saturday and came away 9-0 winners. This was the last game in the normal rounds and vital semi-final spots were up for grabs.  Going into the weekend, Labrador needed Easts to be beaten by Saint Andrews which took place, resulting in Labrador moving to first place to win the Minor First Grade Premiership. An incredible feat they have only achieved once before!

The young Kedron Wavell side was no match for the experienced LHC team who had to win to keep their Minor Premiership hopes alive. Labrador was quick to score in the first 4 minutes after a good team lead up saw Tyler Gaddes grab the first of his 4-goal haul of the match. Moments later, Ben Cosgrove converted a goal mouth melee. Gaddes bagged 2 more in quick succession following great lead up work by Ryan Proctor. Further goals by the ever- improving Will Mathison, Ryan Proctor and Joes Sandor from a cleverly converted penalty corner conversion, took the total to 8 before Marshall Brown converted another PC variation to take it to 9 unanswered goals by the 59th Minute. Labrador wasn’t able to get to double figures, held out by the tenacious KW HC defence.

Congratulations to tied Best Time Pub Group Best on Ground presented to Tyler Gaddes and Ryan Proctor by Janelle Merrell, with Luca Brown securing the coveted Guzman y Gomez Stix Guard award, presented by Ben Cosgrove. Luca is leaving for Holland to play for Nijmegen HC. We wish him well in this phase of his outstanding hockey career.

BHL 2 defeated Kedron Wavell HC 5 goals to 1 on Saturday, earning a place in the BHA semi-finals next Saturday, finishing fifth on the table. After establishing a 4 goal lead by half time, the team couldn’t capitalise on the attacking circle opportunities until a penalty stroke was awarded and converted by Riley Wain in the 67th minute. The players will train hard this week in preparation for when they take on Northern Suburbs HC in the knockout semi-final next weekend. Time and venue in Brisbane yet to be advised.

It was great to have Joe Reardon return from serious injury scoring 2 of the 5 goals and awarded the Dominos Crestwood Plaza’s Best on Ground presented by manager Michael Campbell.  Congratulations also to Toby Campbell on receiving the Guzman Y Gomez Stix award from our team Stix Motivator.
